The Gospel of Luke 8:53-56 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.” (Luke 8:53-56 KJV).

The scene displayed in these passages reveal that the support group of this family are still fleshly minded. With all the mourning, the wailing, and laughing with scornful attitude towards the Author of Life, these people give themselves away by the way they behave. They still are worldly minded, viewing death as a loss with all their crying. Unbeknownst to them, the maiden is merely asleep, and yet scriptures say- “to live is Christ to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). In Christ Jesus, dying is not something to mourn, but to celebrate! They’re unaware that the giver of life is in their midst! Putting them all out of the room away from the sleeping young lady, the Lord Jesus awakens her.

Witnessed by the young girl’s Dad and Mom, the Lord Jesus calls the maiden to arise, and as her spirit quickens returning she wakes up ready to eat. He tells them to give her food. Astonished as they are, our Lord Jesus Christ as usual commanded them not to tell anyone what was done - as the time for revelation is not yet ripe. Such a very reassuring private event this family is privileged to experience for us to reflect on, being children of God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. In His presence we have life to live on, for we are His offspring. In Him, we live and move! Scriptures proclaim: “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’” (Acts 17:26-28 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
