The Gospel of Luke 22:24-26 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise Lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.” (Luke 22:24-26 KJV).

In these passages, we catch posturing for grandeur builds among the disciples. It opens the opportunity for our Lord Jesus Christ to redefine true greatness in the context of grace as servanthood rather than mastering over. The Lord contrasts worldly rulers with His disciples by emphasizing that the greatest among them must become like the youngest and the leader like the one who serves.

The scene displays a dispute breaking out among the disciples during the Last Supper as to who should be considered the greatest. Our Lord intervening, points out that earthly kings, "lord it over" their subjects, but His kingdom operates on an entirely different standard. He positions Himself as the ultimate example, noting that even though He is Master and Lord, He is among them as the one who serves.

Our Lord’s New Covenant of Grace does not demand that we exhaust ourselves climbing a ladder of worldly status or power or religious pride. We rest in the presence of Christ Jesus our Lord. True service for sons and daughters of God flows naturally from allowing our Lord Jesus to minister to and supply our emptiness first. God’s children don’t earn greatness through self-driven effort. We receive His grace by faith so we can be the vessel for grace unto others in the posture of serving.

The greatest in the kingdom of God serves and ministers humbly to proclaim heaven’s reign and pass on its blessings to all. We freely receive. We freely give! It is written, the Lord’s command declares: “And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.” (Matthew 10:7-8 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:21-23 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.” (Luke 22:21-23 KJV).

As they are celebrating their Last Super together, our Lord Jesus Christ exposes His coming betrayal, prompting the disciples to question who is it among them would do it.

This comes as a highlight moment of grace even at the Lord’s Table of Remembrance, His love reigns, remains unbroken despite flaws and hidden agenda of someone among His chosen. All of us are flawed, even in our best times of demeanor. Grace is not an artificial environment free of pain. Our Lord Jesus shared the Passover meal knowing the traitor is among those around the table. Instead of restraining, holding the bread and the cup, He respects human free will to run its course. Such is a penultimate expression of our Lord’s unconditional love and intentional sacrifice.

Just as He knew about the betrayal and denials ahead, our Lord Jesus looked past human failure to secure redemption and provide His unfailing peace. He declares: ““These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:25-27 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:20 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” (Luke 22:20 KJV).

In this passage, we watch the Lord take the cup representing the New Covenant to be sealed by His blood that He will shed on the cross. His blood brings total forgiveness of sins, divine health, and freedom from every curse. The New Covenant through His blood replaces the old system of the law with a free gift of grace and righteousness imputed through faith in Him.

The blood He shed for you and I, manifests a personal and finished sacrifice of love, rather than an ongoing religious ritual. The “remission of sins” is affirmed through the cup that we, who believe, are completely cleansed, forgiven and washed. Drinking the cup is an expression and active way to receive newness in life, strength, and immunity from sickness sustaining our Health and Wholeness.

As the Lord’s redeemed, saved by grace through faith, partaking the cup of His blood often—not just in ritualistic formal congregational setting—keeps us refreshed and nourished by His grace. Remembering our Lord, as Scriptures instructed the Twelve on the night before He was betrayed, and which we are also reminded through the Epistle (1 Corinthians 11:24-25), keep us blessed and strengthened until we celebrate and drink with Him in heaven. This, He promised, as it is written: “I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”” (Matthew 26:29 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19 KJV).

The Passover Meal Celebration or The Lord’s Super is a powerful instrument of grace, healing, peace and covenant security. It is not merely a religious ritual as many religious organizations are doing. When the Lord Jesus says, "This is my body which is given for you," He authorizes a physical exchange. On the cross, our Lord instituted a divine exchange - His body was broken so that as we believe in Him, our body is made whole.

Every time we eat the bread, we are actively participating in the "stripes and lashes" our Lord Jesus took. This act spiritually releases healing to your body, wiping out symptoms, physical sickness, and untimely death. When the Lord said - "do this in remembrance of me" we are commanded to actively enforce New Covenant realities, not just think about it. In remembering, our Lord declares the power of His finished work upon us. It is made available to you and I. In Him, we are justified, set free and dwell in prosperity. “In remembrance” we testify of our Lord’s victory that disarms the enemy and forces him to flee. This shifts us from the Old Covenant of the Law to the New Covenant of Grace. No more rituals!

Partaking of the bread brings us to absolute oneness bound by love with our Lord Jesus Christ. By consuming the bread representing His flesh in faith, "Whatever He is, we are. Whatever He has, we have." It interrupts generational curses, poverty, and mental oppression by cementing your identity in Christ. Scriptures affirm: “By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:17-18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: for I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.” (Luke 22:17-18 KJV).

This scene captures our Lord Jesus Christ setting up the Passover meal celebration, taking the cup with instruction to divide among them. He will be sharing the cup of wine with His Twelve apostles for kindred partaking to emphasize relational communion, joyful partnership, and the anticipation of His physical familial kingdom. We note the Last Supper follows the Passover Seder, where multiple cups of wine or juice are shared. In Luke 22:17, our Lord Jesus tells the disciples to take the cup and "divide it among yourselves," pointing to the deep fellowship and unity for those who believe, share in and through Him.

When our Lord Jesus states in verse 18 that He will not drink of the fruit of the vine again until the kingdom of God comes, this points to the future fulfillment of His reign and the ultimate joyous reunion, with all of us that believe, in the Father’s kingdom. In our today’s living as God’s children through faith in our risen Lord, the elements of the cup (the wine from fruit of the vine) is meant to be received as unhindered displays of God's grace and love. Through His shed blood we receive sustaining health, and cleansing from the curse of this world. It is not for legalistic and religious rituals. It is for our purification.

Hence, in this life as we walk in the light by His grace through faith in Him, Scriptures affirm, as it is written: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7 NIV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:14-16 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: for I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 22:14-16 KJV).

In these intense moments, our Lord Jesus Christ expresses His deep, passionate longing to institute the New Covenant of Grace and the Partaking of Bread and Wine. This highlights our Lord’s heartfelt desire saying: "with fervent desire I have desired" to share the final Passover meal before facing His suffering on the cross with His core redeemed disciples.

In His deep longing, our Jesus looked forward to this meal because it immediately preceded His finished work on the cross at Calvary, which transitions those who believes out of judgment into the realm of grace. This marks His intent to share the final moment of deep intimacy with His disciples to institute the New Covenant through His upcoming sacrifice, and fulfill His ultimate mission of redemption before facing His suffering on the cross.

When He says He will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God, it points forward to the ultimate victory and eternal communion, we-His redeemed, share with Him. Immediately following this intense expression of desire, our Lord Jesus transitions the Passover symbols of His Body and Blood into the bread and the wine, establishing the regular rhythm of grace, health, and remembrance for us - the body of believers. By this, we are made the household of the Lord held together, as it is written: “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.” (Ephesians 2:19-21 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.” (Luke 22:13 KJV).

This passage affirms that Peter and John obeyed the Lord’s instruction fully as they were told. They found the upper room exactly as the Lord directed them, and they prepared the Passover meal. Peter and John were sent into the city of Jerusalem on a special mission with specific instructions to find a man carrying a water pitcher. This was meant for a very conspicuous sign for them to follow to the house he enters.

In those times, carrying a water jar was typically a task for women, making the man doing so stand out in a crowd. The disciples followed the man, spoke to the homeowner of the house he entered, and shown the furnished upper room ready, proving the Lord’s word was completely accurate and true, which affirms the Lord’s full control of the unfolding events. This reveals that our Lord Jesus knew everything that would happen and was guiding the events leading up to His final hours.

Apostles Peter and John, marked as our perfect example to follow, trusted and obeyed our Lord’s instructions without hesitation or doubt, allowing the Last Supper to take place. This is such a vivid picture of how God’s Grace work in our living. Without the rigmaroles and rituals of religion, we just have to hear and listen to God’s pure and living Word and follow it.

His instruction is simple. We have to execute the work required of us by believing in Him. Not by membership of religious organization nor following doctrines and rituals, but purely by ingesting His pure Words resting in His grace by believing in Christ Jesus. When the crowd said to the Lord ‘what must we do?’, it is written: “Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”” (John 6:28-29 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:9-12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.” (Luke 22:9-12 KJV).

These passages point deeply to the provision of the New Covenant of God’s grace. The man carrying water symbolizes the Holy Spirit, while the clean and furnished "Upper Room" represents God’s throne of grace, the place of reclining and rest for believers who are set free from the burdens of the law.

In biblical typology, the man with the pitcher directs focus to several symbolic messages to reflect on. The water represents the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus wants His disciples,—as well as you and I — to be led by the Holy Spirit today, allowing Him to guide and lead us in our steps. The upper room is the place of intimacy, divine rest, and spiritual supply. We note that the room was already "furnished and prepared," meaning we don't have to work hard or strive to earn God's blessings. Instead, we simply step into the chamber of His grace by faith in the provisions that our Lord Jesus has already furnished for us.

Just as the disciples left the bustling city activities to share a meal with our Lord Jesus Christ in a quiet upper room, we too are to take a break from the grip of life’s worldly demands. This imagery aims to encourage all of us believers to withdraw from self-effort of the law and religion. Let us sit at God's throne of unmerited favor and abounding grace, in the presence of our Lord and Redeemer.

As one who conquered the weakness of the flesh by yielding in His grace, let us therefore, welcome Him in. He is standing at the door, knocking, eager to come in to dine with us, as it is written: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.” (Revelation 3:20-21 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:7-8 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.” (Luke 22:7-8 KJV).

In these passages, our Lord Jesus Christ instructs Peter and John to prepare for the Passover meal celebration, a beautiful moment of grace. This would serve as a divine marker transitioning from the Old Covenant of the law to the New Covenant of grace. It emphasizes that the Passover tradition was a celebration of God’s deliverance of Israel from Egyptian slavery. Here, we watch our Lord Jesus preparing to become the ultimate fulfillment of it. As a spotless lamb was killed during the God’s Passover in Egypt, this penultimate Passover celebration the spotless Son of God is set to be killed. He substitutes to die on the cross so that humanity would be permanently delivered from the bondage and slavery of sin, as its foreshadow delivered the Israelites from bondage in Egypt.

Our Lord Jesus had an intense desire to share this meal with His core disciples because He knew it was His last Passover before the cross, pointing toward the ultimate fulfillment of God's plan for His Kingdom. The preparation of the room serves as a spiritual metaphor. Just as Peter and John made a place ready for our Lord Jesus and His disciples, you and I are encouraged to open up the "guest room" of our own hearts and make space for Christ Jesus our Lord. Let’s prepare our heart to provide not a guest room, but have it ready to establish our Lord’s throne of grace (James 5:8).

Let us, therefore, make it a committed response to our Lord’s call, not for religious membership, but for personal intimate relationship with Him. He calls you and I, as it is written: “My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.” (Proverbs 23:26 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:3-6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.” (Luke 22:3-6 KJV).

These passages serve as a stark warning about the danger of letting the enemy gain a foothold in your heart. That’s what happened to Judas Iscariot who betrayed our Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than framing the event purely as a predetermined tragedy, this moment of betrayal emphasize the critical importance of keeping your mind and heart protected by God's grace. It points out that Judas Iscariot was numbered among the twelve apostles. But his heart had been compromised by greed and a failure to submit to God’s grace totally. Satan entered Judas after he allowed his own wrong desires and covetousness to take priority in his life. As caretaker of their money bag, he usually helps himself to what was put in it (John 12:6).

When people go their own way to fulfill their own desires, they open themselves up to spiritual deception. Hence, this reminds that if you keep your eyes fixed on your own fleshly desires instead of being conscious to the leading of the Holy Spirit, you become vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes. Judas in his worldly state blinked from his faith agreed to betray the Lord for money. He promises to provide the religious priests an opportunity to arrest our Lord Jesus when He is alone way out of the crowd’s presence.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was not surprised of Judas’s action. He foresaw it, He being Omniscient. But, because of His love, our Lord offered him grace, as He does to all sinners. Our Lord gave Judas a place in His inner circle of disciples not because Judas is good, but because of our Lord’s grace. Judas wasted his opportunity for eternal place in the Lord’s presence for few pieces of coins that led to his doom.

Hence, in Apostle Paul’s epistle, we are warned. It is written: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” (1 Timothy 6:10 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 22:1-2 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.” (Luke 22:1-2 KJV).

These texts set the stage for the FINAL unfolding of our Lord’s earthly ministry. With The Feast of Unleavened Bread - called The Passover approaching, and the religious leaders (chief priests and scribes) actively plotting how to kill our Lord Jesus Christ, made it known that they are afraid of the crowd’s reaction. The religious leaders conspired to destroy our Lord, but through the lens of grace, their plot perfectly aligned with God’s divine plan. Our Lord Jesus Christ wasn't going to die as a victim of circumstance. He was the ultimate fulfillment of God’s Passover plan. Just as the Passover lamb had to be spotless and sacrificed at a specific time in the Old Testament, the Lord Jesus—the spotless Lamb of God—was sacrificed for us exactly on the day of the Passover. What the enemy meant for evil, God used for the eternal redemption of humanity.

In these passages, the religious leaders and teachers—the men who should have recognized our Lord the Messiah—are the ones conspiring to kill Him. This is dead religion at work in contrast with the living grace of Christ Jesus. The chief priests operated under the Law-watered down by their man-made religious precepts, based on performance for self-righteousness. Because our Lord Jesus came to offer the free gift of righteousness and unconditional love, He was a threat to religion’s system of control, just like as perpetuated by present day religions.

In this crucial hours, as the Passover draws near, our Lord Jesus is set to gather with His closest disciples to eat the Passover meal, to radically culminate His mission to restore the New Covenant of Grace. Instead of focusing on the plot of the religious leaders, He focuses on what He is about to accomplish: shed His blood for the full forgiveness of our sins.

The Person of Grace removes the fear of men and women of the world. Unlike the religious leaders who were manipulated by public opinion, as with many in this present day who are held captive by religion. They brainwashed the world by religious systems for centuries that many were blinded to see this truth in God’s holy and written Words. It is my prayer that through this PFCmissions Reflections many would go to God’s Words of Truth, the Scriptures and meditate on it through the eyes of grace guided by the wisdom of the Holy Spirit who teaches us all things (John 14:26). Stay away from religion! Rest in God’s grace by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ! He is perfectly secure in His Father's love. Even though He knew torture and the cross were on the brink, His mind was fixed on higher things: bringing those who believe into the New Covenant of the Grace of God.

Hence, to get hold of the Lord’s intent for us, let’s reflect upon this profound declaration in our Lord’s Prayer to the Father. It is written: ““I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”” (John 17:20-26 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:37-38 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.” (Luke 21:37-38 KJV).

These verses give a gentle wrap-up to our Lord’s teachings at the Temple, to paint His climactic routine before the crucifixion. By day, He teaches boldly in the bustling Temple. By night, He retreats to the quiet Mount of Olives to pray and rest, while eager crowds flocking to hear His every word gathering daily early in the morning.

Our Lord Jesus modeled a healthy rhythm of public ministry-touching lost and hungry souls, and private retreat to recharge communing with the Father. Knowing the cross was imminent, our Lord Jesus Christ didn't hide. He shows up consistently prioritizing the work the Father sent Him to accomplish and selflessly poured into eager hearts that come to listen.

While religious leaders were furiously plotting His death, our Lord Jesus remained calm and steadfast in his purpose in the middle of such a storm. He came to ride the storm into His death for you and me. He came to die as our ransom, so we can live for Him. It is written: “For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 ESV).

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”(Luke 21:36 KJV).

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ conveys this dire reminder to all His redeemed in regard His divine promise of Pre-Tribulation Rapture. This assures the Church to be spared from the coming Tribulation. This "Church" refers all believers that totally depend on His grace. This is not a building nor a religious enterprise nor religious organization. He puts us in the know of being "counted worthy". We, rely solely on His finished work on the cross, not on our personal performance. And, He encourages all believers to look forward to His return with joy rather than fear.

We are reminded that being “counted worthy”, is not by our merit. It is by what our Lord Jesus did on the cross. By believing in His grace, we are unconditionally declared righteous by being imputed with His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). Hence, your worthiness to escape judgment is solely based on our Lord’s shed blood on the cross.

We are to ardently pray. This is our constant communing in conversation with God, and being immersed in His words. Prayer is not pagan based man-made chanting ritual of religion. Prayer is our intimate conversations with God, He - being our Father, we - being His children. In His presence, we "escape all these things" which the Lord warned the disciples, then, and us, now. The rapture is our only way of escape, just as God made a way for Noah - to escape the flood in the Ark, and Lot to escape the destruction of Sodom led by the angel of God. We, the church who rest in His grace will be raptured off the earth to "stand before the Son of Man" before the wrath of judgment hits. This is our “Blessed Hope”, where our Lord Jesus Christ (the Bridegroom) will suddenly catch us up, His Bride (the Church) into heaven before the devastating period of the antichrist's rampage on earth.

This promise, therefore, is an anchor of comfort and hope for us rather than a warning of fear. Our focus should rest on the unconditional love and grace of God. Hence, as we stand with the Bridegroom, Scriptures proclaim: “Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.” (Revelation 19:7-8ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:34-35 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.” (Luke 21:34-35 KJV).

Reflecting on these passages through, on the merit of the grace of God, gives an urgent call to rest in His grace rather than work hard relying on human effort. This warns of exhaustion and numbing of the soul that happens when people try to cope with life's stresses or numb their pain through worldly habits, rather than relying on the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We ought not be caught up focusing on the “cares of this life” with its daily worries, anxieties, the "rat race" and excessive over-indulgence that distract believers from focusing on the Lord’s heavenly provisions. If not reined in, it “comes like a snare” that brings dangers of becoming spiritually complacent. When believers lose sight of the "blessed hope" of the Lord’s return and enamored to rely on the world, they are easily trapped by fear and anxiety. Then fall into losing God’s eternal promise of life.

Hence, we are reminded to stay motivated in the blessed hope for holy living. Not in the fear of a "sudden trap," but the joyful anticipation of our Lord Jesus Christ coming back to bring us to Himself. We must remain eagerly waiting for His coming (Romans 9:27-28) resting in His grace. It is written, our Lord Jesus proclaims: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:3 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:32-33 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Luke 21:32-33 KJV).

The physical signs declared by our Lord Jesus Christ - like natural calamities and man-made global turmoil, warn of fearful end times occurrence in the view of the world and its systems of religion. But, true believers do not fear, because God’s promises of protection and salvation are eternal and unshakable. We are offered with absolute assurance that His promises of forgiveness and eternal life are firmly set, regardless of the world.

These passages hold the Lord’s oath to His followers that the prophesied events of the destruction of Jerusalem and His eventual return are absolutely certain to happen. The generation witnessing the early signs will not pass away before these prophecies are set in motion, and His words are more permanent than the physical universe. The Lord’s statement that “This generation shall not pass away” refers to the people alive during His time in the flesh who would witness the destruction of the Jerusalem temple in AD 70. It also points to His promise that the generation of believers who witness the “birth pangs” signs of the end times (Matthew 24:8) will live to see our Lord’s final appearing in the clouds for the rapture of those who are eagerly waiting for Him.

The Lord’s emphatic declaration “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away” affirms His divine authority. He guarantees that the world economies, systems and all earthly circumstances, and the whole physical universe are temporary. All these will eventually disappear. But, His Words - prophecies and teachings are eternal, designed to securely stand forever. Yes, the Word of God is everlasting. Believers can stand confidently on His promises, even when facing severe adversity. It is written: “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.”(Revelation 3:21 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:29-31 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.” (Luke 21:29-31 KJV).

These verses give the message in parable form of prophetic hope rather than fear. These teach that just as we watch the sprouting fig trees signal the certainty of summer’s arrival, the "signs of the times"—like global upheavals, pandemics, and earthquakes—assure believers that the Rapture (the Lord’s appearing in the clouds to meet us) and the Kingdom of God are imminent.

As we unpack this parable through the lens of grace, we unveil several core lessons to hold on to. While our Lord Jesus mentioned frightening events, it’s not intended to bring fear to those who rest in His grace. It is for the purpose that all believers can look up confidently, knowing their complete bodily redemption is coming.

Using the metaphor of the budding fig trees, the Lord signals a shift into a favorable season. He likens the nearness of God's Kingdom to the onset of "summer," where the dark clouds of sickness, stress, and sorrow are passing away. The blessed hope of the Lord’s inevitable return purifies and empowers us who enters into His grace to live and thrive victorious in this present realm of living. This contrasts religion's fear-based doomsday view of the end-times. The New Covenant of Grace brings in the hope of new beginnings of eternal living. God's super-abounding favor is meant to protect and provide for those who truly believe, during dark times while still in this world.

Whether we fly (being raptured as we will be) or die, makes no difference - being redeemed by His blood through faith, we will all be caught up together with the Lord in the clouds and be with Him forever. It is written: “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:27-28 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:27-28 KJV).

Viewed through the lens of grace and the blessed hope of every believer’s rapture, these passages teach that we should live in confident expectation rather than fear. While these verses describe apocalyptic events and global distress, these also emphasize that God is not judging believers. Instead, as the world darkens, believers are encourage to look forward to the imminent return of our Lord Jesus, set by the Rapture in the air, and manifest by the transformation of their corruptible bodies into incorruptible glorious states.

This puts us in the know that believers should "look up" because their focus is on their Savior who fully wrapped them by His grace, neither on religion nor on the chaos of the world. It explains that lifting up your head isn't an act of self-righteous pride, but recognition of the complete rescue in God’s grace. In this text, “redemption” goes beyond having our sins forgiven. It points toward the total redemption of the physical body—where believers will never fall sick, get fatigued, or die forever more. This is, therefore, reminding us that God's super-abounding grace is protecting and providing us in this life, while we are still in the flesh.

We have the Lord’s promise that as we fully yield our life to be wrapped by His grace through faith in Him, we live. In the last days, our physical body is transformed, as it is written: “For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”” (1 Corinthians 15:53-54 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:25-26 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26 KJV).

As described in these passages, our Lord Jesus Christ predicts terrifying end-time events with supernatural signs. These say that as the world grows darker with the sun, the moon and the stars giving their celestial signs, and people of the world in panic, we who are saved by grace should not be afraid. Instead, we who rest in the Lord’s grace must look up with confidence, knowing our rapture for redemption is near.

There will be signs in the sky and chaos on the earth. The signs include frequent natural disasters and global unrest. People will faint from terror over what is coming. And, we must always remember that the sinful world has no bright horizon. But to those who believe, they are anchored safely in hope by God's grace (Hebrews 6:19).

When the world is in chaos, with cosmic disruption as the heavens are shaken, we must Look Up, Not Down. We, who are saved by grace are to focus on the depth of the Lord’s love that draws Him to take our place to die on the cross. We must lift our eyes to heaven by the leading of the Holy Spirit to watch our salvation come. We the church - the body of believers {not religious buildings, nor institutions nor organizations}, will be raptured before the worst of the earth’s tribulation occurs.

Rather than obsessing over the exact details of the end times, we are to focus on our relationship with dependence in Christ Jesus our Lord. We remember Him as He instructed by partaking the bread and wine regularly (1 Corinthians 11:24). We are to understand that Grace brings us physical peace and vigor while in the midst of a fearful world.

Apostle John the beloved, assures and testifies with these apocalyptic words: “And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.” (Revelation 12:10 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:23-24 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:23-24 KJV).

Our Lord Jesus Christ continues to warn of the great distress coming to Judea and Jerusalem, with the destruction of the Temple, great woes to the nursing mothers and diaspora of the Jewish people. Many would be taken captive and scattered among the nations.

Viewing these passages, through the lens of the New Covenant of grace and prophetic hope, give focus on two main revelations. Firstly, while our Lord Jesus prophesied real historical disasters and distress, God's ultimate desire for His people is one of grace and redemption. For us - present day believers, the emphasis isn't on living in fear of end-times wrath, but on resting in the finished work of our Lord Jesus, knowing we are forgiven and securely loved (John 15:9).

Secondly, Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles "until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." It is referring to the period of time when Gentiles occupied Israel from the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple up to the Lord's return in glory. This teaches that we are living in the closing season of this prophetic timeline. Pointing to recent event of the restoration of Jerusalem to Israel, when the USA and other nations recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the nation Israel, shows a sign that we are drawing closer to the return of Christ Jesus our Lord and the rapture of the Church. Church - being the body of believers who totally rest in grace by faith in Christ Jesus. Church is neither a building nor an enterprise nor an institution nor an organization of present day religions. The church is you and I and many others that yielded their lives totally to the Lord Jesus Christ in His grace through faith. The church is not factions or denominations of religion.

We must, therefore, take these words as our cue to go into the place of right believing, rather than be held captive by deceptions in religious fear and panic. With our heart and being in expectant posture by faith in Christ Jesus, we stand settled in this assurance: “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:27-28 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:20-22 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judæa flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter there into. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:20-22 KJV).

These passages of our Lord’s teachings and warnings to the disciples and the crowd in the temple, specifically refers to His prophecy of the historic destruction of Jerusalem by the Roman armies in 70 A.D.. These are not descriptions of present-day wrath for New Covenant believers. It is a warning of judgment upon a nation that rejected their Messiah.

Our Lord Jesus warned His disciples that when they see this happening - (that is when they see Jerusalem is being surrounded by armies), they must flee out if they are in Judea. For those who are not in, He instructs-“don’t come in!” This was fulfilled when General Titus and the Roman legions besieged the City of Jerusalem that results in a devastating historical event.

The mention of "days of vengeance”, refers to the historical judgment for rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ. This reminds us, that under the Covenant of Grace, God's wrath has been entirely satisfied at the cross, transforming God's throne into a place of unconditional grace for the believer. We must get in the shield of the Lord’s grace by faith in Him to be spared from this judgement.

Scriptures, therefore, edify us with these exhortations by Apostle Paul: “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” (Colossians 2:13-15 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:16-19 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls.” (Luke 21:16-19 KJV).

Reflecting on these verses through the lens of grace and the security of God’s eternal plan, our Lord Jesus Christ assures us that in the face of end-times turmoil and persecution, believers are completely secure in the shield of His grace. We just need to rest in His finished work, rather than strive in fear by work of self-effort through religious laws and rituals. When our Lord Jesus warns of believers being hated, betrayed, and delivered up by loved ones-who cause many to be put to death, He is preparing us of the reality of living in a world cursed by sin. The mind of the flesh in this place is hostile to God (Romans 8:7). He teaches with clarity that this suffering is not a punishment from God. Rather, it is the reality of the last days in this fallen world.

Declaring that in the midst of all these “not a hair of your head will perish” is a powerful pledge of eternal security. He assures that no matter the outward circumstances, your eternal destiny and spirit are absolutely untouchable and settled in Christ Jesus.

Our Lord gives an oath that "By your endurance you will gain your lives". This is not a call to work hard but to endure in faith by yielding our every being in His grace, to prevent our flesh from responding with its normal reaction of self-effort. This is not a call to earn salvation by merit of work. Our "endurance" is our settled state of ‘rest’ in grace by faith in Christ.

Scriptures hearten us with these words: “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:14-15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” (Luke 21:14-15 KJV).

Our Lord Jesus Christ in these passages gives the disciples comforting assurance. Having warned them of trials and interrogations by political and religious leaders, because of their faith on Him and the hatred of the religious and political leadership, He tells His followers and us, not to worry about defending themselves and ourselves during such times of persecutions. He promised to give them and us "a mouth and wisdom" that our adversaries cannot contradict nor resist. It is a promise of confidence in His provision of grace. This assures us that in any crisis—whether standing before authorities, a boss, or in personal conflicts—as believers in Him, we should rely on the Holy Spirit to provide the right words of defense.

This is telling us that we do not need to mentally exhaust ourselves or "meditate and rehearse beforehand" on how to defend ourselves. Instead, this is a call to rest by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ allowing His finished work at the cross to be our source of confidence, peace and wisdom. This wisdom is not just a mental tactic or a set of rules. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in us speaking in and through us. When we face difficult adversaries or stressful situations, our Lord Jesus Himself in us, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, becomes our wisdom.

We must always be in the consciousness that as children of the Most High God by faith in Christ Jesus, our tongue is endowed with power of death and life (Proverbs 18:21). Hence, we speak in grace and life. It is written, our Lord Jesus proclaims: “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:12-13 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. And it shall turn to you for a testimony.” (Luke 21:12-13 KJV).

In this instance of our Lord’s prophetic revelation, He prepares His disciples for extreme persecution they will face in His name’s sake. He warns them that their suffering will be their testimony. Instead of viewing imprisonment and standing prosecuted before rulers and religious leaders as defeat, our Lord Jesus reframes these trials as divine opportunities to witness for His message of grace and truth.

He conveys these words to His disciples as He was about to face His own imminent arrest, trial and crucifixion in the hands of religious Jews. He warns that, as His followers, they will face the same hate and hostility. They will experience trials before judges and rulers, in religious synagogues and royal courts. Prison will become a common experience. It’s all because they rest by grace in His Name.

These verses contain a profound twist for truth: human malice is being transformed into a divine testimonial platform. The Greek word for "testimony" is ‘martyrion’, which declares that our defense as believers in the face of death would become the ultimate example of the power of the gospel of grace. This, Apostle Paul affirmed in his testimonial exhortation to encourage us. It is written: “The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Timothy 1:14-17 NIV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:10-11 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and great earthquakes shall be in diverse places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” (Luke 21:10-11 KJV).

Our Lord Jesus, in these verses, gives the disciples and us - the present day recipients of His grace by faith, clear prophetic signs of the "last days" pointing to His return in glory. He reminds us all that instead of causing fear, these global crises which are happening (like wars, earthquakes, famines and pestilences), should serve as a pop up alert that our reign as His redeemed draws near.

The signs of the End Times that we are experiencing point to world events of natural calamities (like the recent earthquakes), economic upheavals, wars and pestilences (like the COVID-19 pandemic) are unfolding as the Lord prophesied. It marks a shifting in the times. While the unredeemed see the world falling apart, we, who are in Christ Jesus and saved by His grace should see prophetic scriptures being fulfilled. It should draw excitement from within us knowing His return is near.

The end times will come in its right time that no one knows (Matthew 24:36). As children of God in Christ Jesus, we are to be ready in a twinkling of an eye when it comes. We must see the present events happening as urgent call, watching nations and kingdoms rise against each other. We are to view the world's moral decline and uncertainty as an opportunity to boldly share the Good News of the Grace of God, looking forward to a worldwide revival and outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The Lord is giving time for His grace to be shared to all, as this reflections aim to bring about. Let’s pass on His Gospel of Grace, knowing that: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:9 NKJV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:7-9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.” (Luke 21:7-9 KJV).

After our Lord Jesus prophesied the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, the disciples ask: when this disaster will happen and what the warning signs will be? So, He warns them and us not to panic or be misled by world chaos, false prophets, or political upheavals. Being His followers, He teaches us to stand firm and invest in eternal things rather than temporary earthly structures. Our Lord cautions them and us now not to be deceived by false messiahs who claim the end is instantly near, due to destruction and turmoil.

When wars and insurrections break out, like what we see and hear in our present world, He commands them and us to not panic. He clarifies that while these historic calamities must happen, "the end will not follow immediately". We ought not be misled following charismatic and religious people or figures, spreading rumors that falsely predict the exact date and time of our Lord’s return or the end of the age.

While disasters and societal collapse cause global fear, we who are in Christ Jesus by His grace are called to remain calm, peaceful and steadfast. The destruction of the Temple is a reminder that nothing man-made lasts forever. As children of God, we should focus on the unshakable nature of God's Kingdom.

Secure in His grace, we must be in the state of eager expectation of joy, not fear, for His coming. We are called to remain zealot in the work of God (John 6:29), resting in God’s grace. The Holy Scriptures nudge us with these words: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” (Titus 2:11-14 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!

The Gospel of Luke 21:5-6 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” (Luke 21:5-6 KJV).

In these passages, our Lord Jesus Christ foretells the destruction of the magnificent Temple in Jerusalem, which brings the message about the transition from the Old Covenant of the law to the restoration of God’s unmerited favor in the New Covenant of grace. From the time of Noah after the flood up to the foot of Mt Sinai, God’s unmerited favor was in operation and made fully available to all who trust in the Lord Jehovah. The Israelites, in spite of their murmuring, were provided with pillars of fire during the night and pillars of clouds during the day (Exodus 13:21). They were sustained by God’s provision of grace and no one died in their journey up to Mt Sinai!

But, at Mt Sinai they rebelled and challenged God saying, “we will do everything the Lord has said.” (Exodus 19:8). Hence, the Lord gave them the Ten Commandments to make them realize they can’t do it, and that they need God’s grace. They need a Savior. They need God. That is what these passages convey when the Lord Jesus reveals the destruction of the temple - representing the effort of the flesh in the Old Covenant of the law, ushering in the New Covenant of Grace in Him who is our Lord Jesus Christ.

The temple, admired by the disciples, represents the perfection and holiness of the law that brought in demands for fulfillment which they worked hard by human effort. They set up religious rituals trying to fill its perfect demand that could not be done. The temple’s destruction will mark the end of the Old Covenant of the law, and the ushering in of the New Covenant in Christ Jesus - the Person of Grace. This recognizes the truth that God does not dwell in temples made with human hands (Acts 7:48), but among His people (Revelations 21:3). It is written: “The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.” (Acts 17:24-25 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 21:1-4 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: for all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.” (Luke 21:1-4 KJV).

As our Lord Jesus continues teaching in the temple, He notices the poor widow offering her two small copper coins into the temple coffers. Through the lens of the New Covenant of Grace, He uses this as a warning. If we are not careful, we can easily come to a point of honoring those who are wealthy because their gifts are large in monetary value, even though their actual sacrifices may be small or none at all. God, however, knows our hearts when we give. He knows what we hold back and why. He also knows how much we give away and the attitude which has prompted that giving. Many give their surpluses from luxurious lifestyles, not a sacrifice taken out of their needs for living, not even out of their wants. It is not a matter of the size of the gift, rather it is the size of the heart that matters.

In another reality, all around us are unnoticed people who are living in God’s grace by the unction of the Holy Spirit for the Lord, but who would not or seldom receive human recognition. Our Lord Jesus, however, notices them. He knows their hearts as they give and serve. Not one act of kindness we do, led by the Spirit, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and for the glory of the Kingdom will be overlooked and forgotten. Not one sacrifice for the Savior will go unnoticed. He knows the truth behind our gifts of sacrifice and is blessed when they come from a generous, compassionate, and joyous heart, regardless of material value.

Right giving, as with the widow’s act, is an issue of trust. Throwing in to offer all she has is having the faith that her source, who is God, will supply all her needs, as promised in the Lord’s holy and written Words. This is done not by our self effort to do good, but by following the unction of the Holy Spirit by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who is our source. It is written, Apostle Paul exhorts: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Philippians 4:19-20 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 20:45-47 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.” (Luke 20:45-47 KJV).

These verses squarely warn against the dangers of self-righteousness, religious legalism, and exploiting the vulnerable. The hypocritical performance-based religion of the Pharisees and the Scribes, then, and many others in this present age, contrasts head on with the beauty and freedom of the New Covenant of grace.

Our Lord Jesus Christ warns His disciples, in the hearing of the crowd that followed Him, to avoid the mindset of the religious leaders and scholars. They loved recognition and accolades of people. They seek chief seats in social and official functions, flowing robes, and love flattering greetings akin to celebrities of these days. By their self-effort, they pursue "behavior modification" arrogantly displayed, rather than true, heart-felt transformation in humility of yielding to Christ Jesus.

These leaders love to exploit the most vulnerable people in society while masking their greed with long, public prayers for show. Their pious acts were driven by religious obligation and a desire to look holy to others. Their religious living is totally in contrast with living under the gospel of the grace of God in Christ. True holiness and righteous living are the "fruit" of an intimate love relationship with Christ Jesus, not the result of trying to impress God or people through self-effort.

The Lord, therefore, warns us, as it is written: “And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”” (Mark 12:38-40 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 20:41-44 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?” (Luke 20:41-44 KJV).

In these passages, our Lord Jesus Christ asks a puzzle question to prove His divinity. He asks: how can the Messiah be just King David’s son when David called the Messiah "Lord" in Psalm 110:1. With this, He is giving a cue providing a vital proof that He is fully God and David's Lord, not just a human earthly descendant of David.

The religious leaders of the day believed the Messiah would simply be a great earthly military king from David’s human family tree. Hence, the Lord Jesus quotes Psalm 110:1, where David says, "The Lord said to my Lord..." to remind that David knew who He is. The culture then and now, never consider a father calls his son "Lord". By calling his own prophesied descendant "Lord," David reveals the Messiah is eternal and God in the shell of flesh.

The passage quoted the Father tells the Messiah to “sit at my right hand”. Looking through this in the lens of grace, "Sitting" is a picture of total rest. We are reminded by these verses that because the Lord already defeated sin and death, we no longer need to struggle or fight our enemies. Instead, we rest in His victory as God places our problems and enemies under our feet (Romans 16:20). As it is written: “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!

The Gospel of Luke 20:39-40 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said. And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.” (Luke 20:39-40 KJV).

With the Lord’s masterful response in revealing the reality of the resurrection, His adversaries - the scribes, are silenced. They cease asking Him questions, giving triumph of Grace and truth over the deceptive religious workers of self-effort under the law. When the religious elite tried to trap our Lord Jesus Christ with trick questions by their religious designs, He answered them with divine wisdom, leaving them with no further tricks to use. The scribes’ "Gotcha" questions were running out, along with their unbiblical man-made religious rituals of Self-Effort.

The Pharisees and scribes were obsessed with their religious law and self-righteousness (trying hard to do things to earn God’s favor). In this chapter of Luke’s gospel, they attempted to trap the Lord to catch Him in His words. However, our Lord Jesus Christ consistently exposed the emptiness of their religious words and ways, revealing the true, liberating nature of God's grace.

Hence, the scribes "no longer dared to ask Him any question at all." The Scriptures in many occasions illustrate that human intellect and religious self-confidence are no match for the wisdom of Christ Jesus. When people stop trying to impress God with their own works and limitations of the "flesh" (human effort) their conscience goes silent, making room for the Holy Spirit to do His work. If only they soften their hearts and submit. This reminds us to be still and be humble always to let the Holy Spirit work in us, as it is written: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 20:37-38 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.” (Luke 20:37-38 KJV).

In refuting the Sadducees' denial of the resurrection, the Lord Jesus pointed to Moses at the burning bush. He highlights that God is "not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to Him," He is revealing that death is merely a temporary sleep for the body, while those who truly believe, their souls remain vibrantly alive in God's presence. Through the lens of grace, this highlights three main spiritual realities.

Our Lord Jesus used the example of the burning bush (where God declared Himself the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob centuries after they died) to prove that physical death does not end a believer's relationship with God. In His eyes, all who trust in Him are alive, always.

By our Lord’s finished work on the cross, He conquered sin and death. True believers who rest in grace through faith in the Lord, no longer need to live in bondage to the "mother of all fears" (the fear of death and judgment). By understanding that you are eternally secure and "alive to God," you can rest in His grace and experience His peace in your daily life, knowing your eternal destiny is guaranteed by the risen Lord. We have our Lord’s assurance: “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”” (John 10:28-30 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 20:34-36 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: but they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” (Luke 20:34-36 KJV).

These passages remind us of the realities and truths of being children of the resurrection. In this physical realm, the sons and daughters of this age marry and given in marriage. Marriage is an earthly design of God for the present physical world, primarily to fill and populate the earth (Genesis 1:28) and provide companionship in oneness (Genesis 2:24).

"...But those who are counted worthy..”- those who are resurrected into eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, “…they neither marry…”. In the resurrection, the spiritual bodies will no longer need the earthly institution of marriage for procreation or completeness. We are transformed into our heavenly nature not subject to earthly conditions of death and decay. We will be united with the Lord, as His bride forever (Revelation 19:7-9).

"Nor can they die anymore... they are sons of God". As believers in Christ Jesus, we will be incorruptible, fully sharing in the divine, eternal life of Christ. Scriptures declare, as it is written: “Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 ESV).

The Gospel of Luke 20:27-33 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.” (Luke 20:27-33 KJV).

These passages show that certain Sadducees approached our Lord Jesus with a highly far-fetched, hypothetical question to mock the supernatural reality of the resurrection. This is because the Sadducees, belonging to another denomination of religion, completely rejected the message of grace and truth and of miracles, angels, and of life after physical death. They too attempted to trap our Lord Jesus Christ using a bizarre application of Moses' law regarding levirate marriage that requires a man to marry his brother’s widow. This highlights the radical difference between earthly, fleshly relationships and our future heavenly spiritual reality.

Our Lord Jesus shuts down the Sadducees' skepticism by affirming that God is the God of the living, proving that the dead will indeed arise. Instead of focusing on earthly relationships continuing into the afterlife, this directs our attention to the finished work of our Lord. He teaches that resurrection is God's ultimate proof that humanity has been justified and cleared of all sin, and of death to live forever in his real spiritual state in a glorified body.

This, therefore, reminds us about moving past the limited, earthly way of thinking to marvel at the glorious, eternal life secured for those who believe in the finished work on the cross and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Him, we passed from death to life (John 5:24). In love, God’s Holy and Written Words give us this affirmation and assurance: “Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.” (1 John 3:13-14 ESV).
