The Gospel of Luke 14:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.” (Luke 14:15 KJV).

Hearing the Lord’s teaching to invite for banquet those who could not reciprocate, a guest at the party proclaims, "Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God!" This statement reflects a religious Jew’s presumptuous belief that all physical Israelites were guaranteed with seats at the Messianic banquet table. The Lord Jesus uses this to relate the parable of the Great Banquet to challenge the man’s presumption. These religious leaders are focused on their social status and self-righteousness. The man’s comment was likely a pious, but superficial exclamation, meant to imply he was among the worthy to sit at heaven’s celebration banquet.

Acceptance of the invitation of the Gospel of the Grace of God is the key. Indifference or rejection of the gospel has dire consequences. Hence, we are therefore reminded in this passage to be steadfast in faith, being children of God in Christ Jesus. Not by our merit for being religious nor by our efforts to observe the law. In Christ Jesus by faith in His finished work on the cross, we are blessed to eat bread in the kingdom of God. Eating bread signifies we are in a very close fellowship with the Lord. Scriptures declare, as it is written: “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” (Ephesians 2:4-6 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
