When God Says …
“And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.” (Luke 17:37 KJV).
As the disciples were taking in all the Lord’s teaching, they ask: “Where, Lord?" That’s in regard to the coming judgment and meeting in the air. Our Lord Jesus Christ replies, "Where the body is, the vultures will be gathered (Luke 17:37b NIV).” This metaphor means that divine judgment is inevitable and self-evident, just like vultures that always find a carcass, this points to the final judgment of sinners and rapture of those who are saved by grace.
The "body" analogy does not refer to a literal dead carcass. It is the Body of Believers in Christ Jesus—specifically, the Lord Jesus Himself, who is the center of the coming gathering. We, who believe are in Him and Him in us in the Spirit. The eagles or voltures are seen as the believers who are gathered to our Lord Jesus Christ in the air, having received their new and transformed bodies.
In the context of our gift of salvation by grace through faith, this "gathering" in the clouds is a happy and glorious reunion of those who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, where God’s Children are brought to where He is. This is the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:3 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
