When God Says …
“But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?” (John 9:18-19 KJV)
Fulfilling the prophecies about the Messiah in Isaiah 29:18; 35:5 & 42:7, miraculously a man born blind had his eye sight healed. This event is historic, as nothing like it had ever happened before. However, as this was performed by the Lord on a Sabbath, this irritated the Jews - referring to the religious Pharisees, Priests and Scribes in Jerusalem which was the center of religious power of the time. These religious leaders totally refused to believed. Yes, they are supposed to shepherd the people, spiritually guided by God's Words handed down from Moses and the prophets, but sadly they have been corrupted by doctrines of customs and traditions made by men and some rituals borrowed from pagan and worldly creeds. Just like the present day religious institutions bearing the name of Jesus, which had been defiled with doctrines not coming from the holy and written Words of God. Some are even adopting worldly concepts of political correctness, climate, family and gender matters.
With hearts hardened by unbelief, these people continue to pursue their questioning by calling on the parents of the healed blind man. These poor parents, who are also held captive by their fears of these religious zealots, must be so anxious when they were asked: “Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? So how is it that he now sees?”” (John 9:18-19 MSG). In such a dilemma, thoughts of denying must have flashed their mind knowing the harm these interrogators could inflect on their family with a response contrary to their goal and intent.
This raises a pop up alert for us to be rooted in faith in Christ Jesus for such a time that He warned us of when He said: ““Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.” (Matthew 10:16-19 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
