When God Says …
“No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Luke 16:13 KJV).
This passage is giving us a pop up alert: “money can subjugate people!” Hence, this is a call to beware and totally depend on God's grace and the Lord’s finished work over trusting in self-effort or material wealth. This reminds that every child of God should use money as a tool, not allow to be mastered by it, while trusting God as the true source of supply. Money is a resource and God is the source. Serving money means trusting in it for security, while serving God means dependence on His provision of grace by faith in Christ Jesus.
In the context of the preceding parable of the Shrewd Manager (Luke 16:1-12), this analogy of serving two masters emphasizes using temporary "worldly wealth" to secure eternal, spiritual results. That is investing in lost people and the gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24). The focus is on where the heart finds its security. When we look to God's grace in Christ, we are set free from the bondage of Mammon (worship of money). We must always remember that God gives the power to produce wealth for the purpose of establishing His kingdom in the covenant of grace, not enterprises of religion for self-exaltation or material hoarding.
Hence, when believers put God first and rely on His grace, wealth becomes a tool and a servant to fulfill God's purpose, rather than a master that controls their lives. When we put God FIRST in our life,“ mammon” and everything else will be blessed and be a blessing. Yes, Scriptures affirm, when we seek first the kingdom of God all other things on this earth will follow to pursue us in its nature to be an increase. It is written: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
