"My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights." (Proverbs 3:11, 12 NKJV)
It's a plea driven by a Father's love to a beloved child, leading a wild life, who rejects loving discipline. Every good father who loves corrects. We as children of God, through faith in Christ, will receive chastisement if we carelessly and/or knowingly walk the wrong path that leads to sin and destruction.
The world is full of diversions to stray. Hence, He watches over us to keep us safe. It is written - "And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the lord ’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” (Hebrews 12:5, 6 NLT)
And I say, AMEN!
