“and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.” (Luke 15:23-24 KJV).
Continuing on with the story of the squandering son’s return, having him restored with the paraphernalia of Sonship - the robe, ring and sandals on, the father instructs his servants to prepare the fatted calf. This is a signal for celebration feast. This profoundly demonstrates God’s grace, showing that upon the return of sinners, He does not condemn but instantly restores them to full sonship with joy. The Father's unconditional love sets heaven with royalty celebration for the lost being found.
The fatted calf being killed for the feast points to the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus Christ, as He takes our place of punishment, and the rejoicing that happens in heaven of His rising from the dead. The son’s return marks a transition from a lifeless life to a living and vibrant one in the Father’s house. This comes through our Lord Jesus Christ’s rising from the grave giving us new life in grace as we rest by faith in Him.
This, therefore, is a revelation of God's heart of grace and love, aimed at those who are in sin (state of unbelief), inviting them to trust in His eagerness and joy to restore everyone who comes. Thousands of angels in heaven celebrate our return for reconciliation in the house of our Father. Scriptures affirm: “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:10-11 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
