When God Says …
“And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: and if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.” (Luke 22:66-68 KJV).
The scene is daybreak before the religious tribunal. Our Lord Jesus stands before the religious council of elders, chief priests, and scribes questioning if He is the Christ, to which He replies that they will neither believe Him, nor answer if He questions them. They will not release Him either, as He is set to complete His mission. The Lord knows this is a sham hearing. Being the Person of grace, we know this moment not as a helpless condemnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rather, we see Him in His quiet, resolute determination to endure rejection and judgment in our place.
The “Kangaroo” council of religious authorities demands a direct answer from our Lord while they are already plotting to condemn Him. Hence, our Lord’s responses, highlights their closed hearts and He redirected their gaze to His ultimate authority and high calling.
Our Lord Jesus Christ willingly takes the place of the accused, absorbing human hostility so believers like you and I can share His unmerited favor and eternal security. He died for our sins once and for all. Scriptures declare as Apostle Peter himself testifies: “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,” (1 Peter 3:18 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
