When God Says …
“And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.” (Luke 23:8 KJV).
This passage highlights the excitement of King Herod to see our Lord Jesus Christ, revealing that he’d been hoping for this for some time. He wanted to watch the Lord performs miracles simply out of curiosity. This moment of encounter for hope of shallow entertainment-seeking curiosity, contrasts with the intent to see the Lord truly by faith. This should remind us that our Lord Jesus Christ grants us daily miracles of grace rather than performance for amusement. In Christ Jesus our Lord, our daily life in grace is filled with moment to moment of miracles.
Herod wanted a spectacle. He viewed our Lord Jesus through the lens of material world wanting to be amused or impressed rather than seek the truth to be saved. His heart was set on self-gratification and fleeting joy rather than repentance for eternal bless of salvation. He is like those many held captive by religion, mesmerized by their leaders and charismatic figures. They flock to watch their so-called “healing crusades” or other rituals for indulgence. They use the Lord’s name in vain to perform “healing” for stage show of deception and other ulterior motives.
The miracles from heaven are not for show. Signs and wonders are for our strength, to reveal God’s glory, affirm His power, display His compassion, and confirm His message. Miracles are for drawing those who are lost, so they believe and that by believing all may have life in Christ Jesus’ Name. It is written: “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life” (John 20:30-31 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
