Proverbs 10:17 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God says...

"He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray." (Proverbs 10:17 NKJV)

He gives contrasting pictures of a wise and a fool's direction in life. Those who are wise, not only receive instruction, but retain it. They do not let it slip through out of carelessness, as most do. Nor let it be stolen by those that would rob them of it. They keep instruction safely, pure and whole. They keep it for their own use, that they may govern their lives by it. They keep it for the benefit of others, that they may instruct them. They are in this realm's way of life and life eternal.

Fools do not only let instruction slip by, but willfully and obstinately reject it when it is offered. They will not be taught because it highlights their faults and deficiencies, especially instruction which carries reproof. They have a particular aversion to repeating the same mistakes again and again expecting a different result - which won't happen. Certainly, they err and have false notions of good and evil. A traveler that missed his exit and gone astray who cannot bear to be told the right way, must err still and err endlessly. He certainly misses the way to life.

Let's meditate on these words from the psalmist: "Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in His paths." (Psalms 119:1-3 NLT)

And I say, AMEN!
