"Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding." (Proverbs 10:13 NKJV)
He affirms that our lips reflect it when we have gone through a series of steps in learning the ways of God. First we are ignorant. Ignorance is not stupidity or folly. It is, not knowing the word of God.
Ignorance is overcome by knowledge. Knowledge is, knowing the word of God. The more you know about God's word, the more knowledgeable you become. Knowledge becomes understanding when we figure out how to apply the knowledge of God's word in a fruitful and meaningful way. The more we figure His word and commands out, the more understanding we have about God's ways. Understanding requires a step of application. Once understanding is applied to our day to day life, then we have wisdom. Wisdom leads us to consciously decide in our hearts to put our trust and faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.
Those who neglect the search for knowledge and wisdom ultimately encounter the wand of chastisement. Let's not wait for the hand of discipline to drop on us. Let's emulate the attitude of the Psalmist as he expressed this prayer: "You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your promise. Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed (trusted, relied on, and clung to) Your commandments. (Psalm 119:65, 66 AMP)
And I say, AMEN!
