“A proud and haughty man— “Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.” (Proverbs 21:24 NKJV)
Scoffer, it is! That's the moniker for one who is condescending and obnoxious, to say the least. He is one who swaggers with bloated ego. He is bursting to the brim with putrid gas of contempt. This is that presumptuous person with a nauseating stench of attitude. That's who he is in the eyes of God, which we must not be.
A wise man recognizes and rejects these filthy traits. When it creeps in his life, he opts to humble himself before God to do a refining work in his being. In Christ Jesus by faith, he realizes and receives His finished work on the cross. He surrenders to Him and accepts His Lordship in his life. Yes, as we do that, in Christ's death and resurrection, we become the righteousness of God when we accept His saving grace by faith (Romans 1:17). Humbling before Him, He lifts us up (Matthew 23:12)!
And this exhortation gives a reassuring reminder: “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” (James 4:6-10 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
