When God Says...
“He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour Than he that flattereth with the tongue.” (Proverbs 28:23 KJV)
In the truest essence of authentic relationship, rebuke is far better than flattery for both the corrector and the corrected. The corrector will later be appreciated by the corrected realizing that the rebuke rescued him or her from destruction. Flattery leads nowhere, but ruin and shame for both the giver and the receiver.
We are to speak with our loved ones, friends and everyone in our proximity in the truth of God's Word and in the love of Jesus, though at times truth gives a bit of pain. Pain of correction by God's Word won't last. It is just for a moment, as it opens the door of favors and blessings for the best days yet to come. Flattery may feel good for a moment. But, it could lead to a lifetime of pain. It could even poise you for the danger of eternal damnation.
Hence, in Christ Jesus having Lordship in our life and restored by His grace, we are members of His body. Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” (Ephesians 4:22-25 NIV)
