When God Says...
“The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: But the wicked regardeth not to know it.” (Proverbs 29:7 KJV)
He gives another cue to correct the world's way of helping the poor, which is without any intent of knowing the real cause of it. The wrong perception or perhaps the devious way of the world, often assumes that the solution for poverty is money or material things or handouts. The lack of material things and money are just the symptoms, not the cause. But, the wicked doesn't care about the cause. They may even create the cause to make the poor poorer. Handouts are the wicked way of 'helping'. It makes them dependent and helpless. Keeping them where they are, make them easy to control and be used as pawns for power - like what's happening in many nations of the world.
The righteous one who truly cares, whose faith is in Christ Jesus and depend in His grace, will not only consider the root cause of a person's need, but will seek to do something about it. They don't just give temporary relief. In many a times there may need to re-educate or teach new skills and to exert efforts of work, like what a saying says - "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
So, as children of God in Christ Jesus, we have these words of Apostle Paul to take to heart: “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’(Acts 20:35 NIV). We therefore give knowledge and wisdom from the Words that proceed from the mouth of God! So, they shall know that the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is more than enough. He supplies all our needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
Whenever needed, all the time, lessons of truth must be shared to those who need it, to alleviate the needy, like this exhortation to the Ephesians: “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” (Ephesians 4:28 ESV)
