When God Says …
“The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.” (Luke 11:31 KJV).
In this verse, the Lord Jesus uses the Queen of the South who is the queen of Sheba as powerful example, that she will rise in judgment to condemn the people of this New Covenant of Grace generation that reject Him. The queen traveled from the far ends of the earth to hear Solomon's wisdom. But here, His own people reject Him who is "greater than Solomon" present among them. The Lord Jesus is highlighting their greater accountability and deeper spiritual blindness despite receiving a far superior revelation of God's wisdom and presence with works of wonder. The Queen of Sheba was a Gentile ruler from a distant land, identified as the modern-day Ethiopia, who journeyed to visit and test the wisdom of King Solomon of Israel with hard questions. She was amazed by his wisdom and the blessings of God upon him and his people.
And, yet here we are watching the chosen people of God, the Lord's fellow Israelites whom He came for to save and bring back to reconciliation with Him and the Father, rejected Him. He is much greater than Solomon that a Gentile queen sought to learn from his wisdom. These religious Jews, especially the religious leaders - the Pharisees, the Priests, the Sadducees and the Scribes, blinded by doctrines of their religion, failed to see and accept God in their midst. This, therefore, is our serious reminder that we must take heed to rest in His grace by believing in Christ Jesus, God who is in our midst. Scriptures declare, as it is written: “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” (Matthew 1:22-23 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
