“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10 KJV).
One dire warning we must take heed in these passages: is to be careful what we ask, what we seek and what door to knock, for surely we will receive, we will find and will have the door opened, good or bad. We must, therefore, be firmly rooted in the truth of the Lord’s New Covenant assurance that prayer is an act of total reliance in the unmerited favor of God. It is in the knowledge that everything we need in life is already made available in the Lord's finished work on the cross (John 19:30) by faith, rather than our toilsome effort.
Reliance on the Person of grace, who is our Lord Jesus Christ, not effort - in contrast to religious teachings that emphasizes sacrificial pleading and hard work, as if to convince a reluctant God. "Ask, seek, knock" is approaching an eager and willing Father with confidence, based on relationship through faith in Christ Jesus. The stance we take is receiving God's supply by faith, not working for it. Conceding and acknowledging our need before God in the posture of readiness to receive is what allows God's supply to flow, just as the Lord Jesus responded to people with needs who came during His physical presence in this world (Matthew 15:30-31).
We have the reassuring promise of the Scriptures, as Apostle Paul exhorts with these words: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Philippians 4:19-20 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
