When God says...
“The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.” Proverbs 20:2 NKJV
This passage gives the analogy of danger provoking the wrath of a king, which is likened to provoking a roaring or hungry lion. It is a sin against preservation of one's own life. This alludes to worldly kings, during the Bible times. They possess absolute power over common people's lives. Daniel said this about the power God gave king Nebuchadnessar of Babylon - “Because of the high position he gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. (Daniel 5:19 NIV)." Yes, they have power. It is unwise to displease them.
That's human king we don't mess with. The more so the King of Kings, the Creator of the universe - the One who can give and take life, He who forms us by the touch of His Mighty hands. We don't want to provoke His wrath and be separated from Him. We are called and given the opportunity to choose life in Christ or be separated from Him for all time when the time for repentance will be long gone. That is when this physical life is over. And, if Christ returns today and you haven’t yet accepted Him, your time is up, too. Receiving Jesus by faith in Him is NOW!
With Christ Jesus accepted and having Lordship in our life, Apostle Paul gives this reassuring reminder: “Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:9-11 NIV)
And I say, AMEN!
