When God Says…
“Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day; For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 23:17-18 NKJV)
This command reveals several issues that we can be caught up with, when we focus our sight wrongly, which we must vehemently reject.
Here are what pop up out of these passages:
*Being focused on possessions, instead of right position with God;
*Comparing self with others, most specially with the un-godly; and
*Having a discontented heart, as opposed to a grateful one.
These lead to many other forms of unholiness. “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”(James 3:16 NIV)
What we OUGHT to do is focus our eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ. Keep Him First at the forefront of our minds. He is our hope and future for the hereafter. So, in His grace by faith in Him, let's keep walking in reverent fear of the Lord. We must stay connected with our hope. And, be reminded by these words of exhortation, as it is written “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
