The Gospel of Luke 18:40-41 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.” (Luke 18:40-41 KJV).

Hearing the blind man cried for mercy, the Lord stopped! Despite being surrounded by a massive crowd, our Lord Jesus stops for one disregarded individual. The man's desperate plea shows unwavering determination. He did not let the crowd's intimidation and rebuke stop him from approaching our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Lord asks, "What do you want me to do for you?", it draws out an authentic declaration of faith. This is not a perfunctory greeting of how are you? or hi! Then ignore the response, as most people often do, that could either be “fine” or “pain”. It's an open invitation to bring our specific struggles to our Lord.

The man’s plea to regain his sight, goes beyond physical healing. These passages serve as a metaphor for spiritual blindness. It is a reminder to ask God to help you see His abounding grace, understand His will for your life, and view the world through the eyes of faith rather than human limitations. This man’s desire is borne out of faith in grace to see God’s goodness. The Psalmist testifies for our reminder, as it is written: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” (Psalms 27:13 NIV).

And I say, AMEN!
