The Gospel of Luke 19:37-38 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.” (Luke 19:37-38 KJV).

These verses highlight the disciples’ emotional and spiritual, unashamed joyful praise, as the Lord descend the Mt of Olives. Being children of God in Christ Jesus, these challenge us to never let criticism or fear of being "too exuberant" shame us into silence about our faith. We worship Him as He is worthy!

It serves as a reminder of our "time of God’s visitation". Just as the crowd recognized our Lord Jesus as King, the passage encourages believers to continually open the gates of their hearts and surrender their lives to Him as their triumphant Almighty God. Declaring "peace in heaven and glory in the highest", He is going to be rejected by the world and slain. Peace could not yet be established on earth. Instead, His impending death on the cross secures peace in heaven and in our hearts —meaning the debt of sin is fully paid to satisfy God's justice and allowing believers to be forever forgiven in heaven’s eyes.

Our Lord Jesus Christ intentionally rides a donkey into Jerusalem to fulfill the prophecy, symbolizing that He was coming in meekness and gentleness to bring salvation. It is prophesied: “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
