“And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: and she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” (Luke 1:41-42 KJV).
This is such a deep-seated enlightenment, “the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost." This dramatic encounter between Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, sets the stage for an extraordinary moment in humanity’s destiny. As Mary greets Elizabeth, John leaps in her womb. This reaction is not a physical motion. It is rather a spiritual reverence of his Lord and acceptance of his role, being the forerunner to the coming Messiah. The moment highlights the bond between these mothers and the eternal implication of their sons’ supernatural conceptions. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaims with joy Mary's blessedness among women and the greatness of the fruit of her womb.
Elizabeth’s declaration of blessing on Mary and the Child in her womb signals the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant of grace and truth that came in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. This marks the dawn of a new era of redemption by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, who Mary carries in her womb “by the power of the Most High that overshadow upon her. The Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35).
Yes, this Child in Mary’s womb is the Son of God who came to save the World. That’s you and I who rest in His grace by believing. This, the Lord Jesus affirms Thirty plus years later, in His Words, declaring: “I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.” (John 12:46-47 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
