When God Says …
“If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?” (Luke 12:28 KJV).
Using another imagery illustration of the grass in the field, the Lord Jesus is highlighting its perennial nature to remind us that in Him, we are set to be perennially blessed. The Lord Jesus draws us to see the lush greenery of the grass rolling on the meadow, to convey His assurance that if the grass which one day be thrown in the oven to be burn is clothe as they are, how much more for you and I whom He loves would He sustain us with all the abundance from heaven.
This reveals that worrying is an act of wavering faith. Hence, the Lord is giving His direct command to stop worrying about basic needs of what to eat, what to drink and what to wear, because He and the Father care for you and I, being His children. It is our Heavenly Father’s "good pleasure" to provide us with the infinite resources of the kingdom to meet our needs, which include all material provisions. With our identity as children of the Most High, we are truly valued far more than the grass, which is here today, and tomorrow will be gone.
It is, therefore, the Lord’s strong reminder for us to stand steadfast in faith. We are to be conscious of His constant supply, for we are living under His grace. We don’t stoop to the world with its material supplies, which magnify our needs into wants. We lift our eyes to heaven and look to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). With eyes focused on the world, worry comes asking what shall we eat, drink and wear? He alerts us with assurance by these words: “For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all” (Matthew 6:32 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
