When God Says …
“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.” (Luke 12:4-5 KJV).
These passages, viewed through the lens of the Lord's New Covenant of the gospel of the Grace of God (Acts 20:24), emphasize that true believers, who are saved by His grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), do not live in fear of God's punishment because our Lord Jesus Christ has already taken all our judgment and punishment upon Himself. By law, we have the protection under the principle of double jeopardy. No one is to be prosecuted or punished more than once of the same crime. The Lord Jesus already took the punishment of all our sins - past, present and future, on the cross.
That's what we should fear of falling from, His grace (Galatians 5:4) and love. We do not fear the devil nor the deception of religion nor the threat of losing the world. In Christ Jesus, those things all belong to the sea of forgetfulness. The One who took our sins, He is the One we look to with awe and reverent fear for His exceeding love for us. He loves us that even when we were yet His enemies by our being slave to sin (John 8:34), He took our place on the cross.
That’s our sentence He bore to make us justified and righteous before God (Romans 4:25). The Scriptures affirm: “Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:9-11 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
