When God Says …
“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.” (Luke 12:35-36 KJV).
In these passages, we are called to maintain an expectant, faith-filled, and joyful walk with our Lord Jesus Christ, focusing on His grace and love rather than anxiety or fear. The prompt to "Be dressed in readiness” is our pop up alert to live in constant anticipation of the Lord’s goodness and return, to have a life of peace filled with His divine provision. Our driving force for living is not on fear-based rule-following, but on trust in righteousness provided by grace in the Lord’s finished work on the cross. With loins fully girded, this keeps our "lamp" of faith burning.
Using the example of good servants waiting for their master, we are reminded to live actively and fully alert, knowing that God is our loving provider who desires to bless us. He is not our taskmaster that pushes us to work hard by our self-effort. He is our loving and Almighty Father who loves us, inviting us to rest in His presence and give Him the sovereignty of our lives so to bless us. In His grace resting by faith in Him, immersed in ingesting His words, our lamp keeps burning to light our path in this darkened world.
Once, we were in darkness, but now in the light we are made alert and ready to open when He knocks. By His mercy, we are blessed and loved! It is written, Scriptures declare: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
