The Gospel of Luke 12:33-34 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:33-34 KJV).

These passages give us a profound revelation: our heart follows where our treasures are. Our hearts are connected to what we value much with. As we reflect on these verses through the context of the Lord's grace, it calls us to trust in God’s provision rather than hoarding material wealth in bags that wear out. Not by way of self-effort and religion, it emphasizes storing "heavenly treasures" by converting material wealth into spiritual in our generous giving and investing in eternal things—specifically on people who are spiritually lost. Not by our emotions, but by the unction of the Holy Spirit, on them we sow the seed of the word of the gospel of the grace of God—which secures the heart’s focus on the kingdom of God.

We are called to invest in "heavenly treasure" which means, being led by the Holy Spirit, we shift our focus from hoarding earthly goods in earthly chests that thieves break in to steal, to trusting in God's abundance. It refers to investing in the lives of people by drawing them away from the world and deception of religion. We lead them to have a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ by faith, who is the only way to the Father. Their souls are the only lasting and eternal treasures that can be saved in heaven. Our hearts must, therefore, be anchored in love to gather as many harvests of souls for the Kingdom of God. We must swap the material wealth entrusted us by God for our stewardship with spiritual treasures that can be saved in heaven.

The reality is - we can’t bring with us the earthly riches in our possession when we leave this world. But, when we unclench our closed fists and let go off those material things to spread the Gospel of the Grace of God, we remit the riches we are blessed with in advance to heaven, so that when we arrive there, we will be where our treasures are. We must, therefore, be strongly rooted in our Lord’s Words in His Sermon on the Mount. ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
