When God Says …

“I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.” (John 17:15 KJV).

This passage of the Lord’s poignant prayers to the Father for our sakes, highlight our active engagement with the world along with the apostles, as children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Rooted in faith, being born again the moment we believed in our Savior, we are sealed for our call to witness and serve as ambassadors for Christ. We have the authority, power and resources of heaven supporting us. That’s the affirmation of the Lord’s intercessory prayers for us to the Father. He entrusted us in the Father’s care. We can rely on His Words of truth for our sanctification amidst confrontation with the world. The passage shows the reality that to be sent into the world involves both the risk of suffering and the assurance of God's protective presence. The Lord Jesus has modeled us how to navigate by faith in the complexities of a fallen world.

In this moving moment of the Lord’s intercessory prayer, He expresses heartfelt concern for His disciples who would remain in a hostile world. Recognizing the unique challenges they would face, He ensured their need for divine protection is provided, rather than retreat from it. The Lord Jesus does not request the apostle’s and our removal from the world, but rather that they/we be sustained and kept safe. We shall overcome. We have the Lord’s assurance, as He declared in His parting discourse. It is written: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”” (John 16:33 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
