When God Says …
“He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child Shall have him become his son at the length.” (Proverbs 29:21 KJV)
Here's another wise counsel dealing with master and servant relationship, which is very useful to look through the prism of today's employer and employee setting. When employees are not managed well in the context of reward for work done well, they become unproductive and lazy. Lack of motivation breeds laziness. When they are pampered or 'delicately brought' they will ultimately act like a wild undisciplined son, who expects a reward for doing nothing. Spoiling brings suffering. It leads them to demand 'rights' for laziness. Just like the prodigal son in one of our Lord’s teachings who said to his fully alive father: “Father, give me my share of the estate.” (Luke 15:11-30).
This reminds that in every relationship of authority and subject, of superior and subordinate, there are guardrails need to observe and abide with. Corrections, disciplines and reproofs are essential for mutual benefits of the parties involved. The lack of it ends in disaster and dismay. It degenerates on economic and social order. It brings curse, instead of blessings.
In such context, God's Words constantly exhort every child of God in grace by faith in Christ Jesus. As we are having His Lordship, totally dependent on His grace, we are to do our duties and roles as we should unto the Lord. It is written: “Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.” (Ephesians 6:5-9 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
