Proverbs 30:7-9 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Two things have I required of thee; Deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And take the name of my God in vain.” (Proverbs 30:7-9 KJV)

Agur's prayer request to the Lord reflects his genuine concern about his spiritual well-being. This plea shows he is cognizant of his frailty and weakness. He asked the Lord to remove from him, vanity and lies, as we should, too. Like the psalmist declares: “Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” (Psalms 119:37 NIV)

This reminds us not to pursue things of the world which leads to arrogance and deception to ask, ‘Who is the Lord? Rather, as this man shows us, better settle in total dependence of the Lord's daily provisions. In Christ Jesus by faith in Him, His grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9). We look for today. Yesterday is past. And, tomorrow is not ours. We have only today. In Him, we'll never be in lack (Philippians 4:19).

With intimate relationship in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Scriptures declare this assurance: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” (2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV)

And I say, AMEN!
