“A man's pride shall bring him low: But honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” (Proverbs 29:23 KJV)
It is said that: "attitude determines altitude". On everyone's demeanor dashboard are buttons to either take you up or bring you down. To go up, humility is the button to push. To drop down, you hit the pride button.
The scriptures warn about pride. Being proud is a sin and root for other sins. Most sins and crimes we watch committed in our community and society emanate from pride. And the world promotes pride even to the extent of being proud of the mediocre, repugnant and ungodly things they do. They go around in 'pride' parades. They raise their 'pride' flags to display it everywhere. They even proudly flaunt abominable ‘drag queen’ shows, directly affronting God’s Words, as it is written: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality” (1 Corinthians 6:9 ESV).
God is against pride and the proud, and we should, too. As children of the Most High God by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, we are reminded - "“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.””(James 4:6 NIV)
Lord Jesus teaches this principle to rise in the altitude of greatness: “The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:11-12 ESV)
