“It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” (Proverbs 31:4-5 KJV)
The mom continues to give her son the reminder. And, he is a king! This tells that a mom's care and love doesn't stop even after a child's emancipation from home. Here is a son - a king, who honors it by sharing it for our reflection to learn from! Even for an obvious caution about something everybody knows - the adverse effect of alcohol in a person's mental faculties. It affects a person's judgment and actions. Lives are lost on the streets because of its influence on the mind of those who abuse it. A king and a prince know that! But this wise and loving mother, worthy to emulate, could not presume and neglect it, but reminds him because of her love and concern.
Her love for her son and care for the impact his decisions would have on many lives, especially the afflicted and the helpless, are the deep-rooted impetus she has to look after her son, as any loving mother would. Well, there may be a few mothers that don't care. But, every loving ones do care. That's how our mothers love us all - her sons and daughters. And, God loves us the more. He comforts us, much more than a mother can and would.
The Lord comforts us with His ultimate expression of love, as His only begotten Son laid His life for us on the cross. On the streets of Jerusalem, to save us from the penalty of sin, He shed His blood.
This loving mom of King Lemuel is worthy to emulate. God's holy and written Words affirm with these declarations:
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15 NIV).
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 66:13 ESV)
And I say, AMEN!
