The Gospel of Luke 24:1-3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.” (Luke 24:1-3 KJV).

These passages reveal the spiritual lesson of the empty tomb: that human effort and self-initiated service lead to missing God's timing. Instead of relying on your own strength, to do things for God, true victory and right placement come from continually receiving His Words, overflowing grace and gift of righteousness first. When your heart is centered on receiving in faith, God will naturally position you to do the right thing at the right time.

We learn in these passages that the women who hurried to the tomb, with costly spices on the morning of resurrection day, were too late for burial anointing of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because our Lord had already risen, their prepared spices were of no use, and their labor, though well-intentioned, missed the window of service opportunity.

This incident contrasts these women with Mary of Bethany (from Luke 10 and John 12). While her sister Martha was busy rushing around, Mary chose the "one thing needful"—she sat at the Lord's feet and focused entirely on receiving His grace and His Words.

Because Mary, the sister of Martha, prioritized receiving from our Lord Jesus first, she was uniquely given the divine revelation and right timing to anoint Him with costly fragrant oil before He died (Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; Luke 7:36-50; John 12:1-8). Let us, therefore, take this as our cue to receive first, by yielding our life to His grace and love. We rest in His presence to partake and receive His Words of life. When Martha complained about her sister Mary sitting at the Lord’s feet partaking His Words, Scriptures say: “But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
