The Gospel of Luke 24:12 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.” (Luke 24:12 KJV).

This passage displays several core realities of the Lord’s fully completed work to set in motion the Covenant of Grace. Before Apostle Peter ran to the tomb, he and the other apostles dismissed the women’s reports of the Lord’s resurrection as "idle tales". This is pointing out that humanity naturally struggles to believe the radical goodness of God because their heart and mind are conditioned by a performance-based mentality of the Covenant of the Law and distortion of religion. When Peter saw the neatly folded linen cloths as he stooped in the sepulchre, his confusion began to break. The resurrection is the ultimate proof that the "sin gauge" has been stopped and that true believers are now fully reconciled with God.

The linen cloths were laid neatly, signifying our Lord Jesus didn't rush out to leave a mess; the work was completed in perfect, divine order. The Finished Works of Christ Jesus our Lord emphasizes that everything required for a believer’s salvation, healing, and deliverance was fully finalized as He rose from the grave. The empty tomb affirms the work is over, and our only job now is to believe (John 6:29), receive and rest on what has already been done rather than strive to earn God's acceptance and favor.

The empty tomb marks the end of the Old Covenant of the Law. The grave could not hold our Lord Jesus because He successfully fulfilled the demands of the Law on our behalf. When Apostle Peter walked away "wondering in himself," he was standing on the threshold of a brand-new era — shifting from a life governed by rules written on stone, the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters of stone (2 Corinthians 3:7), to a life led internally by the Holy Spirit. We now rest on Grace that leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 5:21). The Holy Scriptures declare this truth: “In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” (Hebrews 8:13 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
