The Gospel of Luke 24:22-24 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.” (Luke 24:22-24 KJV).

The two disciples on the road to Emmaus continue to recount to the Lord in disguise how some women from their company astonished them by finding the tomb empty. They report of a vision of angels who said the Lord Jesus was alive. Though, they did not see Him. Saying it’s been three days since the crucifixion day, they express profound dashed hopes and discouragement. Hence, the Lord redirected the disciples back to the Scriptures to anchor their faith in the Word, instead of physical sight.

Our Lord Jesus Christ chose to keep the disciples from recognizing Him physically at first because true, lasting faith comes from seeing Him unveiled through the Scriptures rather than through physical appearance. These, therefore, challenge all believers to seek a deep, personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Himself rather than merely searching for answers, healing, or material blessings. We are to seek the blesser and not only the blessings. We seek the giver, not the gift. Our Lord Jesus reminds us with these words: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV). And the Word is Christ Jesus our Lord, as Scriptures affirm: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
