“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words,” (Luke 24:6-8 KJV).
Viewing these passages through the lens of the gospel of God’s grace highlights several core takeaways. In prior verses, the angels ask the women: why they seek the living among the dead? This alerts us that many professed ‘believers’ today are still looking for our Lord Jesus in "dead" places—such as under the Old Covenant of the law, rigid legalism, deception of religion or human effort. It is noted that the Lord is no longer on the cross and no longer in the grave. He is resurrected, and we can now leave behind those past failures or old ways of trying to earn righteousness that brings condemnation rather than life.
This highlights that "they remembered His words.” And, it is nudging us that the remedy for fear, doubt, and spiritual depression is actively remembering what our Lord Jesus said and has accomplished for us. When the women focused on their natural circumstances (the empty tomb and their grief), they're troubled. However, remembering His Words change their perspective. Under grace, remembering the Words of Christ means anchoring your mind to His finished work on the cross, where your sins were fully paid for.
This cautions all believers against "bringing the Lord Jesus back before the cross" by only looking at His earthly life as a set of rules to follow. Instead, this marks the pivot point where our Lord Jesus moves from the suffering servant to the resurrected Lord. Believers are called to relate to Him as He is now—glorified, sitting at the right hand of God, and continually supplying grace and life. Scriptures exhort us, as it is written: “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:10 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
