“and returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.” (Luke 24:9-11 KJV).
Several core lessons are revealed in these passages through our Lord’s restorative grace. The eleven apostles and others present, when the women that returned from the tomb report of the Lord’s resurrection, dismissed the women’s story as “idle tales”-‘leros’ in Greek, from which the medical term ‘delirium is derived. They consider it as nonsense or hysteria. In their state of human logic, the pure gospel of grace and the Lord’s resurrection can seem "too good to be true". They were in the state of being downcast because they relied entirely on their own sensory understanding of the Lord’s death.
The reality and truth is that the resurrection proves our Lord Jesus Christ completely conquered sin, guilt, and human failure. When ‘believers’ struggle to grasp God’s promises, it is often because they are looking at their own inadequacies rather than looking at our Lord’s sufficiency of grace.
We are, therefore, reminded by these verses that true transformation, physical health, and emotional peace come when you stop treating our Lord Jesus as a "means to an end". Instead we fill our heart and mind with His love and beauty through the regular intake of His Words like the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we ate. We must rest in the truth that the Scriptures declare: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 ESV). And, in response to the tempter Scriptures reveal: “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’””(Matthew 4:4 NIV).
And I say, AMEN!
