The Gospel of John 15:3 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” (John 15:3 KJV).

Embedding this passage in the middle of this analogy of the vine and the branches, the Lord aims to clarify and reassure the disciples and us about His earlier lesson of washing of the feet. We learn from the analogy's opening lines that the unfruitful branches are cut and thrown away. They refer to those who pretend to follow Christ and those who follow religion that carries the Christian label. They are either or both impostors, and/or believing wrongly.

When the Lord Jesus Christ washed the disciples' feet, it reveals that those who have saving faith in Him are "clean". They are the eleven disciples whom He now speaks to. They and others who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are the branches that the Father purges to produce much fruits. Hence, the Lord embedded this passage to expose clearly who the "dead branches" are. They are the fake believers, the pretenders, those who try hard to observe the law of whom the finished work of Christ Jesus has no effect. They are fallen from grace (Galatians 5:4).

The productive branches are those who are washed clean by the living water of God's Words. They are reborn by grace through faith in Christ. Yes, that's what we must do, remain in the His grace by faith, and meditate His holy and written Words day and night (1 Peter 1:23-25). As we do that, the Psalmist testifies: “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” (Psalm 1:3 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
