When God Says …
“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” (John 14:9-10 KJV).
Apostle Phillip, as with his fellow disciples, walked and talked with the Lord Jesus Christ in flesh for three years. They saw the miracles and signs He performed. They heard Him teach the message that the Father sent Him to reveal to them and to us. But, it seems that the truth of the Lord Jesus being God incarnate has not sunk yet in Phillip's being. And, sadly, the same reality with many in the world in this present age. The disciples listened to the Lord's heavenly message and saw the proofs of His divinity. The invisible eternal God, who is spirit, the person of grace and truth, was manifest in the flesh in the person of Christ Jesus. But Phillip's myopic mind was still spiritually blinded to the truth, in the absence of the Holy Spirit who is still to come, sought some more physical proof that's already revealed. We ought to grab hold of this truth, NOW! We have the benefit of hindsight and the Scriptures written for us. The Lord Jesus Christ is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature (Hebrews 1:3a). He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. (Colossians 1:15).
The Lord Jesus lived His life demonstrating to us, we being sons and daughters of God by faith in Christ Jesus, how we should live - indwelt, led, and guided by the Holy Spirit who is now in us (1 Corinthians 3:16). We are to abide in unbroken fellowship with our heavenly Father in Christ Jesus, totally dependent on His grace by faith - every moment of the day, while we are still under the sun.
Hence, Apostle John exhorts and reminds us with these words: “And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.” (1 John 2:28-29 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
