The Gospel of John 14:15 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15 KJV)

This succinct passage encompasses the whole message of the Lord's holy and written Words when He says "keep my commandments." He is referring to the fullness of His covenant with us all - from the Old Covenant, which was the New Covenant concealed, to the New Covenant, which is the Old Covenant revealed. Keeping His commandments-His Words, hinges in our loving Him, this passage says. But, His Words reveal to us that no one can. All fall short of God's glory (Romans 3.23). No man can love God unless he loves his brother (1 John 4:10). And only God can truly love because He is love. Hence, this text puts man who relies on his self effort in a dilemma. This is an impossible command to observe in the posture of humanity. This should lead us to realize, we needed the One and only way to fulfill it (John 14:6). We need our Lord Jesus Christ by believing in Him (John 6:29), recognizing that He first loved us (1John 4:19).

We need love to keep His Words. But, we are not equipped to love by our own effort. We need to rest in His grace by faith, let Him love us and allow His Spirit to work in and through us, to manifest His love from within. As it is written: “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.” (1 John 4:10-13 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
