When God Says …

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5 KJV)

With the vine and branch illustration, the Lord Jesus is reminding His eleven disciples, and us now: He is the vine who supplies us the nutrients, we being the branch. The Lord - the vine, supplies the essential power for us to bear fruits. Our role, as the branch, is to bear the fruit by abiding in Him. We manifest what the Lord Jesus channel from within our system connected with Him, by believing. It is not by our effort. It is by our faith that we are attached to the One source.

Many tried and are trying to be the vine. Some semblance of results may manifest by works of self effort. But, those are temporal and fleeting. One may claim credit for the good things supplied to us, but the truth is, those come from the vine. For apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5b).

Hence, Apostle Paul exhorts us to work out our faith for every good work of salvation: “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life," (Philippians 2:13-16a ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
