The Gospel of John 13:36 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.” (John 13:36 KJV).

One can't help but imagine Apostle Peter in deep thought after the Lord Jesus said: “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.” (John 13:33 NIV). With these words churning in his mind, he may not have really heard the Lord's discourse about the new command He gives them. Well, that's how it looks. Considering his heartfelt yet somewhat off the flow query: "Lord, where are you going?" Apostle Peter is one true specimen for humanity. Real and authentic, Peter does not wear masks of pretenses. His questions and statements are unrehearsed out flows of what he has in his heart. He is human just like you and I, who believes and rests in the abounding grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord's response to Peter is a climactic revelation to us all who believes. The place of the cross, the Lord was headed to in that moment in time, was a place where only the Lord Jesus Christ was qualified to go. The cross required a spotless Lamb whose blood was unblemished by sin. The Lord Jesus was the only qualified Savior to pay our ransom by His blood on that rugged tree. They and all of us can't follow Him to the cross. But, after the cross the Lord Jesus gave us the assurance: 'thou shalt follow me afterwards.' We, too, can follow to go and come into His grace and rest! This, the Lord Jesus Christ affirmed after He has risen. The angel said to the women in the empty tomb: “But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”” (Mark 16:7 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
