When God Says …
“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:12-13 KJV).
These passages continue to give the disciples the assurance that they will not be left abandoned and helpless. They’re obviously anxious, as any person would, in their state of being told that in 'a little while' their Master would be leaving and they couldn't come with Him. Hence, the Lord promised them of someone to help them exactly like Him - the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17). In their moment of vulnerability, the Lord Jesus knew that the fullness of His mission would be overwhelming for them to grasp. He will send the Holy Spirit to reveal in full for them and us (that receive His gift of salvation by faith) to understand at the right time.
Events that transpired before the crucifixion and death of the Lord Jesus Christ were confusing for the apostles that witnessed it. Hence, the Holy Spirit is coming, sent by the risen Lord Jesus, to guide them, and us all who believe, into all truth. Truths that we, as His redeemed, must impart to them that we love that they too shall be transformed spiritually. This, Apostle Paul affirmed in the words revealed to him by the risen Lord Jesus Christ. “But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-13 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
