“Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” (John 16:31-32 KJV).
In these passages, the Lord Jesus continues to warn His Eleven apostles of serious challenges in the offing. They will be scattered and threatened by fear and actual heavy-handed pursuit of those who are after their lives. They will be forced to abandon Him - their Master and Lord. Apostle Matthew's account reveals that this interaction happened “When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’” (Matthew 26:30-31 NIV).
Yes, the Lord predicts He will be abandoned by His earthly friends and His disciples (the sheep). But, He also proclaimed that the Father will be with Him. This is a very reassuring reveal for us too. As on account of our faith in Him, we could be hated and abandoned, even by our own family (Matthew 10:35-36). And as the Father was always with the Lord Jesus Christ, we have His promise being the children of the Most High God, born again by faith in Christ Jesus. It is written: “For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear.”” (Hebrews 13:5b-6a NKJV).
And I say, AMEN!
