When God Says …

“Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” (John 16:19-20 KJV).

The Lord Jesus knowing the disciples’ desire to get the meaning of His statement ‘a little while’, again informed them that there’ll be a short period of time they won’t see Him physically. He’s trying to tamper their fear by just hinting and not fully revealing the sacrificial death He will be subjected to in the hands of the religious people and the world. He warns them of a short period they’ll weep and lament, as the world and religious people celebrate. This is our heads up too. All of us may go through times of lament as God’s children in Christ Jesus. But, our trouble is only for a moment. Scriptures remind and assure us to put on the full armor of God to be able to stand for the ‘day’ of evil (Ephesians 6:13 NIV).

Yes, the disciples shall weep for 'a little while' that they won’t see their Master having a rendezvous with death. But in ‘a little while’ the disciples shall see Him, risen and victorious. We too shall rejoice with them. In Him our rejoicing is not just for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. The prophet Jeremiah prophesied their rejoicing on the height of Zion. It is written: “Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.” (Jeremiah 31:13 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
