When God Says …

“Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.” (Luke 22:3-6 KJV).

These passages serve as a stark warning about the danger of letting the enemy gain a foothold in your heart. That’s what happened to Judas Iscariot who betrayed our Lord Jesus Christ. Rather than framing the event purely as a predetermined tragedy, this moment of betrayal emphasize the critical importance of keeping your mind and heart protected by God's grace. It points out that while Judas Iscariot was numbered among the twelve apostles. But his heart had been compromised by greed and a failure to submit to God’s grace totally. Satan entered Judas after he allowed his own wrong desires and covetousness to take priority in his life. As caretaker of their money bag, he usually helps himself to what was put in it. (John 12:6).

When people go their own way to fulfill their own desires, they open themselves up to spiritual deception. Hence, this reminds that if you keep your eyes fixed on your own fleshly desires instead of being conscious to the leading of the Holy Spirit, you become vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes. Judas in his worldly state blinked from his faith agreed to betray the Lord for money. He promises to provide the religious priests an opportunity to arrest our Lord Jesus when He is alone way out of the crowd’s presence.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was not surprised of Judas’s action. He foresaw it, He being omniscient. But, because of His love, our Lord offered him grace, as He does to all sinners. Our Lord gave Judas a place in His inner circle of disciples not because Judas is good, but because of our Lord’s grace. Judas wasted his opportunity for eternal place in the Lord’s presence for few pieces of coins that led to his doom.

Hence, in Apostle Paul’s epistle, we are warned. It is written: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” (1 Timothy 6:10 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
