“Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:45-47 KJV).
We continue to reflect on these passages through the lens of the New Covenant of Grace, and the Finished Work of Christ Jesus our Lord on the cross. As we unpack these verses, we are made aware that our Lord Jesus intentionally restrained the physical eyes of two disciples as they walked on the Road to Emmaus. He wanted them to see Him in the Scriptures first. Seeing Him unveiled in the Word, produces true lasting faith, rather than relying on outward, physical sign.
For our mind to be truly "opened" to the Scriptures, we are to look for our Lord Jesus on every page. He uses this passage to establish a primary New Covenant key: all of the Old Testament (the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms) we must unveil in light of our Lord of grace and His finished work.
We must recognize that the entire Bible points toward the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord’s suffering was the ultimate sacrifice required to pay for humanity's sins. Because the Lord Jesus rose on the third day, believers are made alive righteously justified and given a permanent status of right-standing before God, by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
This GOOD NEWS, we must proclaim to all nations starting in our own Jerusalem. That’s in our proximity and to all within our reach both physically and all through the cyber world. For those who believe, the Good News Scriptures declare: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
