When God Says …
“Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judæa, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituræa and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.” (Luke 3:1-2 KJV).These passages provide historical backdrop for the events unfolding to set the stage of the ministry of John the Baptist. With the highlight of the political power figures in control of the region, gave the pulse of the political and social climate during the time of John the Baptist’s ministry. This seemed to make us think that it is our setting or our location or our time in life that determines when we feel God's influence the most. But, we watched the gathering convergence of the newly established Roman Empire setting its control over the region at the same time as the Kingdom of God emerging by Words revealed through John the Baptist in the wilderness.
This unfolding of the Lord’s coming reminds us that God is greater than this setting, location and time of historical establishment of governing power. God's message came to John at the onset of Roman power occupying Israel, imposing control over the land’s political and social lives. Yet, this was the time that God chose to speak and to act to fulfill His promises and to redeem all peoples. No matter where we are in the circumstances of our life, we mustn’t think that God can't act and bring change, deliverance, and salvation. God is greater than any circumstance. The real issue is whether or not our hearts are yearning for His mighty works and His powerful words to change us regardless of our setting, location, or time in life.
Scriptures declare, that:“All this energy issues from Christ: God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence.” (Ephesians 1:20-23 MSG).
