The Gospel of Luke 3:18 When God Says...I Say, AMEN!

When God Says …

“And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.” (Luke 3:18 KJV).

John the Baptist warns the people following him then, and us now reflecting these words, about the Lord’s winnowing fan - “whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.” (Luke 3:17 KJV). This warning tells everyone that when everlasting life or eternal destruction are the only options, to reject the Good News about the Lord Jesus Christ is to choose destruction. The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) emphasize the radical nature of such a choice we must make about the Kingdom of God and the coming of Christ Jesus our Lord. He is the Good News. He brings the Good News. He ensures the Good News.

Hence, if any rejects Him and the call of the Kingdom of God, the warnings are real that go with that choice. In this world, where few want ultimate choices and the vast majority resents having to deal with lasting consequences of moral and spiritual choices, John the Baptist's message still has a penetrating, and invigorating, and for some who are captive by wrong believing or the absence of God’s presence due to spiritual blindness, this has an irritating echo. Like it or not, the Lord Jesus calls us to decide about who will rule our lives. The choice we make, means everything and everlasting!

Not allowing the grace of Christ Jesus rule our lives by faith in Him, one will fall. Apostle Paul reminds: “You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.” (Galatians 5:4 NIV). Likewise, reality and truth remind us that: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV).

And I say, AMEN!
