“as it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall be made straight, And the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” (Luke 3:4-6 KJV).
Luke introduced John the Baptist as the voice crying in the wilderness, calling for repentance and preparation for the arrival of the Lord. The wilderness symbolizes a place of desolation and spiritual barrenness, and John's proclamation in this setting prompts the urgent need for the people to turn to God and make way for the Messiah, the person of grace and truth - Christ Jesus our Lord.
The prophet Isaiah had foretold (Isaiah 40:4) the leveling off of the playing field by the coming harbinger of grace, that would straighten and smoothen the roads, level the hills, and fill in the valleys so people could find the Savior. Questions to stir us, would be: Does your life navigate in the grace of God? Does it rely in Christ Jesus? Does it depend on the renewing power of the Holy Spirit? That is being in total dependence in God's grace, not by self effort. All of us, who are saved and been born again by faith, are called to be like John. We are to make the road to the Lord clearer for others to navigate so that FINDING Him is not an obstacle to FOLLOWING Him.
The salvation of God is not restricted to a select few, but is offered to all who would receive it through faith in Jesus Christ. Yes, salvation is for all who believes; Not by good works; and Not by indulgences and rituals of religion. Scriptures declare: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
