When God Says …
“And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:17-19 KJV).
This must be the most profound moment for synagogue worship! The scroll of the book of Isaiah is handed and unrolled. The Scripture is read from the Book of Isaiah 61:1-3. Then, with breathless wonder, the words are declared and heard: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, ..." Such a stunning and timely declaration of Isaiah's prophecy of His mission by Him who came to carry it out. “.., because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” (Luke 4:18 NIV).
In these passages, Luke wants to put us in the know that the Messiah is come, setting His mission in motion, being Spirit-anointed, Spirit-led, Spirit-empowered, and Spirit-fulfilled. The Lord’s actions are linked to the Father and to the Old Testament prophecies by the Holy Spirit. Because of the work of the Holy Spirit, freedom will come at the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ who ministers to the outcasts. His ministry is no accident. It’s been planned from the foundations of the World, revealed by the Spirit through the prophets.
So, what's there to learn for us in this? It is the time of God's favor and salvation! It is the time when God fulfills His promises to bring about a new era of newness in our way of living. It is the time when divine intervention from heaven is being brought into our world. Now, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, we are privileged to hear from the mouth of Grace who came “To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Hence, for everyone who have NOT or not truly believe and all those entangled with religion, precepts of the world and wrong believing on matters not from the Words of God - the Holy Scriptures, now is the time to settle in the truth. God is calling, now is the time. After this “Now” could be a costly delay. Scripture says: “For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV).
And I say, AMEN!
